Nylon is a plastic fiber developed by the DuPont company in the USA in 1935 and patented in 1937.
It was the first completely synthetic fiber.
The term nylon was coined by DuPont but was never trademarked.
Over the decades, nylon has become a colloquial synonym.
From a chemical point of view, the fiber belongs to the polyamides. From a purely chemical perspective,
nylon is therefore similar related to proteins.
